Welcome to the website of the Unit for Information Mining and Retrieval at DERI. We will be expanding the unit and the site over the next few weeks.
The overall goal of the UIMR is to develop techniques to harness the massive amounts of dynamically-produced, semi-structured data produced within user communities by discovering the structures, relationships and concepts within this information, providing a means for its reuse and an understanding of the dynamics underlying its production. These goals are described by 3 tasks.
1) The development of techniques for the selection and combination of symbolic features in collaborative information spaces, enabling context-based retrieval and filtering of networked resources
2) Analysis and modelling of the dynamics of online communities in order to understand the structures and behaviours which underly topic development and diffusion.
3) The development of richer personalisation, filtering and recommendation techniques based on user preferences, constraints and context, content analysis, content semantics and collaborative and social relationships. Tasks 1 & 2 will provide extensive input to Task 3.
